This ebook version is USELESS BECAUSE IT DOES NOT HAVE PAGE NUMBERS!!! I purchased this ebook prior to the 2016 fall semester and am finally just now writing this review bc (1) this textbook is useless without page numbers and I forgot I even made this purchase since I couldn't use it to follow along in class, (2) Luckily block 1 of nursing school was easy enough for me that I didn't really need the text book, but now that I am going into Block 2 which is Med-Surg, I have to purchase a hard copy of this book that will have page numbers and I'm reminded all over again of the frustration and uselessness of this ebook.I've wasted ~$100 on this and it is not even useable in class because this version DOES NOT SUPPORT PAGE NUMBERS. How am I supposed to turn to a page my professor says during lecture when there is no page numbers?! Since I need to buy a page-numbered copy of this book (in addition to this useless ebook) I'm spending even more than if I bought a brand new hard copy!!!! I REPEAT DO NOT BUY THIS KINDLE VERSION OF THE EBOOK UNLESS YOU ENJOY WASTING EVEN MORE MONEY ON TEXTBOOKS.Seriously, it should be required by Amazon that if you are going to be a text book you should support page numbers!!! I'm never buying an ebook for school ever again from Amazon.

This e-book is horrific. It has made NP2 a living hell. The book has no page numbers so it makes it very inconvenient to determine reading assignments. You basically need to borrow someone's book to determine where to start. The book sometimes freezes up and gets stuck on the same page until you close the program and reopen. For such a difficult subject matter, you really need the hardcopy to be able to easily flip back and forth while reading. Don't play Russian Roulette with your grade, the semester begins very quickly and does not slow down, start off with a bang and don't let the e-book get in the way.

Maybe I'm missing something, but the kindle version is terrible! The pages do not line up with the printed version so I cannot follow along in class. The set up is COMPLETELY different. All my other textbooks set up just like the printed version in my kindle. Not sure why this one does not.

I read a few reviews that were like "two volumes is so convenient as opposed to having one giant, heavy book!" But for me, personally, it was frustrating when my class referenced pages in volume one as well as volume two. So I still had to carry around both books at the same time. Nothing wrong with the book itself just wanted to point that out for students.

Ok condition as pages seem intact, but the spine could be better. It will continue to rip and break the textbook apart with use. Save the $15 difference in price and buy the new book. Wasn't worth the price difference.

Book was purchased new. Paperback is easy to carry rather than a large cumbersome hardcover. Well organized and easy to read font. Book one ends at page 784 and second book starts on 785 so that helps with the transition between books.BUT there is no access code for the online component.

If you have the choice, totally get the 2-volume set! It's split roughly into equal sections so it makes carrying a probably already heavy backpack that much nicer. Chapters are actually organized fairly well. If you nursing program is like mine, then likely the first few chapters are pretty much filler for stuff in your fundamentals of nursing course. It does a fairly good job of refreshing your basic A&P stuff in each chapter of the body systems which, at least for me, was helpful since my anatomy/physiology was never that great.

The key points at the end of each chapter and nursing safety priority boxes/action alert are great in highlighting important information. Material could be organized better, sometimes it feels like you are going around in circles.

This book spends the first 1/4 of it giving a very detailed and interesting history of ford tractors though the time where ford was sold off and changed names. This part of the book is very interesting but it doesn't help much for anybody looking to fix or restore a ford tractor. Also even though it states that it is for tractors 1939-1962 90% of the technical information only applies to the N series tractors. If you have a Hundred series or an 01 series tractor this book is practically useless for learning much. I did pick up a few things and it was an interesting read but for someone who is looking to restore or just work on a tractor this book doesn't help very much. What information it does provide is short and not specific enough to be of any help. If you are looking to just learn more about ford tractors and their history this is a fun book to read. However the title is terribly misleading and it has nothing in it that will be the " ultimate guide for rebuilding and restoring N-series and later tractors". The information in the book can be covered in a web article in about 20 mins. Just google what you need. Even though it was a good book to read because of the misleading title and short chapters I am giving it 2 stars.

Great book for restorers. Bought it for maintenance information. It has some maintenance info. but is written, more for a restorer.

Mostly a novel, more than a now to repair a Ford Tractor.

I work on computers for a living and when I pick up "A Guide for Dummies" book about computers I shake my head in disbelief that anyone needs such simple information. I do my own wrenching around the house, so when I read the glowing reports about this book, I thought it must have some value. I won't go so far as to say I hate it, but I can get this kind of information off the Net. It ranks right there with the Dummies in my mind.I bought the Kindle version, so I don't know what size some of the pictures might be in the paper version, but they are worthless in the electronic version. If I can get my money back I will.

Nothing of any interest to someone actually DOING a restoration. Lame, generic info that anybody with a toolbox knows.

I am not new to old FORD's so i caught some discrepancies ,but nothing of a problematic nature AND in fact i learned more little ditties i didnt know . So , overall a good buy . i have it on computer thru KINDLE for windows and works very well . this may actually convince me to buy KINDLE 3G . When i say "discrepancies" i should also add ; SO MUCH of FORD history is from word of mouth that often FORD had made changes and then back and forth depending on suppliers and markets or even sold stock that many things differ in FORD history . The procedure pictures are EXCELLENT quality . Enough info given to rebuild , but still a good mechanic's manual from I&T or FORD wood be needed as well. i hope to find THEM on KINDLE someday too . NOW on computer ,FORD TRACTOR , KINDLE program is FULL COLOR and very nice just to "flip thru" for enjoyment. buy it , you'll like it !

Don't think you can buy this one book and restore that old tractor that's been sitting in the feild next door for 20 years. No one book can do that. This is a good starter book if you are interested in Ford tractors and think you want to take one on as a project.

This book was the very first book I ever read on cartooning. If you could only choose 1 - this would be the one to pick. It gives an enjoyable overview of the whole process. I have already read it cover to cover several times, but still, I find I will pick it up, - flip pretty much to any page, - and become inspired and excited all over again at what a few simply lines can do. But this is not just the basic "how to do it" book. He also shows you how much you can change the whole flavor of what you have created just by making a few simple changes to your drawing. This author doesn't hold back. He shares all his 'secret techniques'. I have had art instruction from many different people over the years, but his explanations are far better than any I have ever received elsewhere.

If you are wanting to learn cartooning from a master then get this book it has everything you need to know to get started in cartooning step by step instructions on how to get started.

This cartoon drawing instruction book covers alittle bit about everything. HANDS, EXPRESSIONS,COSTUMES, NEW SHAPES FOR HEADS, BEAR and TEMPLATESwell-worth looking at. I do recommend this book forcartooning basics, and I do know what I am talkingabout because I am a cartoonist!!!!! I've been thinking of getting into cartooning for years, but never took the plunge. This book has pushed me off neutral and into drive. The book started off a bit slow, and I wondered if it was going to be useful. After reading a few more pages, it became clear just how useful it will be. The author does a great job covering all aspects of how to produce human and animal characters, as well as special effects that make a cartoon come to life. This is a book I'll refer to again and again during my journey to becoming a cartoonist.

There are a ton of helpful tips and techniques that range from how to draw facial expressions and body types to how to draw ice cubes and water... and even how to convey wind or rain. The author, Christopher Hart, even explains why cartoon characters have only three fingers.This book is very clear, very informative and very funny! I highly recommend this book!

Everything You Wanted to Know about Cartooning but Were Afraid to Draw tricks your ear into thinking that this will be the best guide for drawing cartoons. Unfortunately, that is not the case. While this book is a great reference if I need to know how a sick cartoon looks, it practically rushes through the basic construction of a character. Sure it has some great information in the beginning of the book. For this, I gave it four stars. As the book goes on, though, it starts to lack any real instruction. This does serve a purpose, however. Charistopher Hart wants to to understand the scene and then build you own. I would recommend this with maybe a real instruction book on cartooning.

What a great book. I really like the progression of teaching. For anyone serious about learning cartooning, and willing to put in the time to practice and understand the concepts, this is the best book I've found to date. I highly recommend it.

From what I can tell, this is the premier book on observational studies, and Paul Rosenbaum is clearly an expert on the topic.The book is written at essentially three levels: (a) qualitative discussions, (b) key statistical models and methods, and (c) more advanced and specialized topics, typically involving more advanced mathematics. Readers with a modest background in statistics (like me) will benefit from reading the book at the first level, but the second level will be tough going and the third level will be mostly out of reach. Therefore, I think the target audience for this book is mainly people with a strong background in statistics, which would include advanced undergraduates, graduate students, and professional statisticians.Unlike experiments, observational studies try to discern the effects of treatments in situations where the assignment of treatments to subjects isn't controlled by the investigator. This situation is common in biomedicine and other areas, so this topic is very important. Lack of control in assigning treatments raises questions of overt and potential bias, and the aim of the book is largely to present statistical approaches to identify and analytically adjust for such biases so that plausible conclusions can be drawn regarding the likely effects of treatments. A key point here is that there's no single objectively "correct" statistical approach to use for this purpose, but rather it's a matter of developing statistical models, the validity of which is largely a matter of judgment. In this regard, Rosenbaum appropriately weaves in considerations from the philosophy of science throughout the book, so you'll hear names like Popper, Lakatos, Feyerabend, and Wittgenstein.To the extent that I'm qualified to do so, I recommend this book to anyone with a serious interest in observational studies, and especially to people with a background in statistics strong enough to make full use of the book. Even with my limitations, I benefitted from this book and grasped the main ideas, and I look forward to returning to the book when I'm better prepared to tackle the math.

Many years ago the famous statistician Ronald Aylmer Fisher criticized analyses that linked lung cancer to smoking. He argued that these studies had hidden biases because they were not controlled experiments. He proposed that smokers could be different from non-smokers because of a genetic propensity to desire cigarettes and that this genetic trait could be correlated with a higher incidence of lung cancer. Thus it would be possible to see a higher frequency of lung cancer among smokers because of this genetic trait rather than because the smoking itself causes the cancer. As far-fetched as this argument may seem to us today, it is based on sound statistical principles and points out some of the potential problems that occur with observational studies.Although randomized control trials are the best way to determine differences in treatment effects, they are not always practical or ethical. It would be wrong to randomly choose subjects and force some of them to smoke.Getting around issues of bias in observational studies was first addressed by Cochran who published a book on the subject in 1983. Rosenbaum came out with his own book in 1995 and this second edition expands and updates that popular text.In Chapter 1 he present examples of observational studies and raises many important issues. Chapter 2 explains the principles of randomized controlled experiments. In Chapter 3 he covers overt bias and some of the basic methods to adjust for it. The sensitivity of observational studies to hidden biases is covered in Chapter 4.This book is well written, authoritative and contains numerous references and examples. It also includes a chapter on how to plan an observational study.Such studies are very important to epidemiologists who want to discover the cause of an epidemic or a disease. With large data base it is possible to remove or adjust biases by matching subjects using propensity scores. Rosenbaum effectively describes how propensity scorng and stratification can be used to make observational studies behave more like randomized control trials.

The book is very well written. It gives a great overview of the fundamental problems of causal inference in observastional studies. It has a lot of examples, homeworks and extensive references in every chapter.

The data and the facts themselves will make people angry, and less of that from the author might have made for a better sense of an objective treatment.As a clinician in the healthcare system for 35+ years, I have to validate the author's sense that healthcare, and indeed virtually every aspect of medicine, has been subjected to and distorted by the commercial agendas and almost unlimited greed of big Pharma. In particular, the abuses of the scientific method in relationship to psychotropic medicines are legion, a place where side effects are concealed and minimized (including very serious ones from neuroleptics) while benefits are blown up and exaggerated. You should read this to get the other side of the advertizing you have absorbed about any drug that you might be taking.It offers a powerful argument that the current system is completely broken, and must be overhauled.

One of the biggest canaries at the moment is Peter Gøtzsche, none other than the head of the Nordic Cochrane Centre, the Scandanavian arm of the Cochrane Collaboration, an independent research and information centre committed to preparing, maintaining, and disseminating reviews of the various treatments of mainstream medicine and examining whether they have adequate evidence of safety and effectiveness. Cochrane was the first group of individuals to champion the notion of`evidence-based' medicine - that is, medicine shouldn't be used unless there's evidence that the stuff works.Gøtzsche is a guy after my own heart. When asked to speak at a Danish Society for Rheumatology event, called `Collaboration with the drug industry. Is it THAT harmful?' Peter's opening gambit was to highlight the fact that Pfizer, one of the meeting's sponsors, had been fined $2.3 billion in the US for promoting off-label use of four drugs, while Merck, the sponsor the year before, had been responsible for the deaths of thousands due to deceptive information about its arthritis drug.Gøtzsche's latest book, entitled Deadly Medicines and Organised Crime: How Big Pharma has Corrupted Healthcare' (Radcliffe Publishing Ltd) pulls even fewer punches. The book essentially makes the point that the drugs industry uses virtually every tactic used by the mob to sell its products.He even quotes a former vice-president of Pfizer as saying, `It is scary how many similarities there are between his industry and the mob. The mob makes obscene amounts of money, as does this industry. The side effects of organized crime are killings and deaths, and the sides effects are the same in this industry. The mob bribes politicians and others, and so does the drug industry.'Perhaps even more extraordinary than the careful case made by this blunt soothsayer is the fact that Richard Smith, the former editor of the British Medical Journal, agreed to write the book's foreword. In the book, Smith points out, the characteristics of organized crime include extortion, fraud, federal drug offences, bribery, embezzlement, obstruction of justice obstruction of law enforcement, tampering with witnesses and political corruption."Peter produces evidence, most of it detailed, to support his case that pharmaceutical companies are guilty of most of these offenses," says Smith. Indeed, most of the billions paid out as fines by the drugs industry for flouting the law as thought of as `the cost of doing business.'"As an epidemiologist with very high numerical literacy and a passion for details, so that he is a world leader in critiquing clinical studies, Peter is here on very solid ground," says Smith. "He shows too how the industry has bought doctors, academics, journals, professional and patient organizations, university departments, journalists, regulators and politicians. Marcia Ancell, the editor for two decades at the new England Journal of Medicine, recently published her own book: The Truth About the Drug Companies: How They Deceive Us and What to Do About It.All of the major medical journals, from the BMJ and the Lancet, to the Journal of the American Medical Association and the New Eng Journal, have revealed the scale of the problem - that correctly prescribed drugs are the fourth leading cause of death, that drug companies massage and make up data.Medicine should be a gift to us all rather than a money-making scheme for the pharmaceutical industry, as it now largely is.With that in mind, we suggest that the following be implemented.An independent funding body should be created to finance all medical trials, whether of drugs, other forms of therapy or alternativesDoctors should be required to spend one year of their five-year training learning about nutrition, alternative modalities and new possibilitiesDrug-company influence should be entirely excluded from medicine, from training colleges and from trips abroadDoctors should be rewarded for adopting non-drug therapies, thus saving the nation at least one small part of the £160 billion spent every year on drugs by the NHS.But most of all, we need to open up the entire field of cancer--our understanding of what it is, what causes it and how it could be treated--while taking on board new understandings of the body and the impact upon it of the environment, stress and emotions. As a researcher once commented when asked whether research into alternative healing should continue, "We can't find the answers if we don't keep asking the questions."We will shortly announce our campaign for freeing medicine from the pharmaceutical industry, so that doctors and patients alike are free to use an entire toolkit of modalities to get and stay well.

I read Marcia Angell ,M.D.'s The Truth About The Drug Companies years ago and found this book to be equally as interesting. Both authors are highly credentialed individuals and paint a sad picture of Big Pharma and healthcare in general. I am a practicing physician and was curious why gabapentin was used so widely today and this book answered that question. Originally approved for seizures that did not respond to other medications and now people are prescribed it for a stubbed toe. Shame on the pharmaceutical industry and the physicians who fall into their trap. A must read for anyone who is alive and breathing.

Frightening, disturbing, and changed my opinion of pharmaceutical companies forever! This book should be required of all health care providers prescribing medications.

UPDATE: I've recently tried 2 more recipes that are easy keepers. Creamy Tomato Soup on page 56 is rich, smooth and just plain comforting. Turkey Breast and Gravy produces tender, moist meat and delicious gravy. Be sure to check the meat with an instant read thermometer, you don't want to overcook it. Pair it with Green Bean Casserole from Slow Cooker Revolution Vol. 2 (also delicious) and you're halfway to Thanksgiving dinner.When I saw in the pre-release notes that this book had 400 recipes, I worried that it would simply be a compilation of the two Slow Cooker Revolution books, and there is plenty of overlap, as is usual with ATK books. By my rough count, 35-40% of the recipes are in one of the prior books. Some chapters contain a lot more new recipes than others. Take Dinner for Two, recipes that don't even appear in the first volume. Vol 2 has 18 recipes, only 5 of which are repeated here. So 22 of the 27 recipes in this chapter are brand new. For cooks like me, with a small family, that increases the value of this book, as it means less scaling of recipes designed for more people.The tips presented on pages 8-17 are very valuable, and may have you looking at your slow cooker in a whole new light. Cooking times have been tightened up so that most now have only a one-hour window instead of the 2 hours from the first book. Timing for chicken breasts has been reduced from 2-3 hours (SCR Vol 2) to 1-2 hours, which I think is spot on.Although it's physically larger than the SCR books, it is about the same thickness, with 388 pages. Instead of sticking to the one-recipe-per-page format of the previous volumes, there are 2-3 recipes per page, and some of the headnotes for recipes appear on the page before the recipe. But do not worry overmuch, there are no split ingredient lists, and most recipes do not span two pages. Some directions will require a page turn, but not many. There are a lot more photos than in the other ATK slow cooker books. There are also color blocks to indicate Easy/Fast Prep, Vegetarian, Light and Cook All Day recipes. These appear in the chapter ToC, the index and below the headnotes for each recipe.All in all, it's a pretty complete (as advertised) slow cooker cookbook. What most people would consider the essential recipes are duplicated from the previous books, so if you have those and are happy, this one isn't really necessary. But If you have been wondering which to get, I'd recommend this one for it's updated recipes. Having everything in one volume means you don't have to worry about chapter titles that don't track between books, as is the case with the first two books. I purchased this book at Sam's Club.

I bought this assuming that there would be overlap from the previous two slow cooker books and that is true. However, the layout, the pictures, the new recipes, etc all make this a very worthwhile purchase. My plan is to donate or sell the previous two cookbooks (along with most of my other slow cooker books) and use this instead. I love it.

I purchased this cookbook because I'm a big fan of the America's Test Kitchen TV show. I was hopeful that their book would provide the same great guide to easy and tasty meal preparation using a slow cooker.The Complete Slow Cooker: From Appetizers to Desserts in the prefect slow cooker book. It lives up to all my expectations. It offers a great variety of recipes, easy to prepare and really tasty.The East Spiced Nuts are terrific and surprisingly easy to prepare. They make a great snack and are good tossed into salads. The soups and stews are beyond delicious.Rather than just throwing everything into a slow cooker and hoping for the best, these recipes require a bit of extra preparation and time. Believe me, you'll be glad you took the time and made the effort. The results are well worth it!This great book lifts the simple slow cooker to a higher level that allows you to prepare delicious food that is really rich in flavor.Highly Recommended!

of flavor.I've used slow cookers ever since I was in college to a limited extant, but all the books I've had usually rely on either the sacrifice of quality or significant effort up front. Sacrificing quality was always something I lived with to some extent, but as a grad student or working father, I never had the time for all the prep some recipes took.Admittedly, more prep usually means better quality results, but the end result had always been that I had been worn down to about 5 recipes being all I would make in my slow-cooker, and most of those were soups or chili.So I approached this book cautiously. My wife and I do love Cooks Illustrated and America's Test Kitchen books, but our use of their recipes has been limited with the expansion of our family. Their recipes tend to be more work and have a lot of prep. And, this book doesn't appear much different, but there are a lot of nice benefits.We've now cooked 5 recipes out of the book, and they've all been great. First, the book has nice color labels on the recipes, which give you a quick idea of what you are getting into. There are recipes identified as "Easy Prep" or "All Day" for instance. The first couple of chapters provide a lot of information and tips, which I think are fantastic for giving a background into how the recipes work (typical ATK type stuff). In terms of recipe preparation, there are some that take a lot of work, but the authors also worked in short-cuts as appropriate.I know there are some who complain about the reliance on microwaves in the initial stages of a recipe. For instance, many recipes have you softening onions or garlic using oil. I guess if you are strongly against microwaves, I can see the complaint, but what a lifesaver. It's much easier to soften the onions for a few minutes in a microwave than 20 minutes on the stove-top at 6am. The microwave for this purpose is a revelation to me. Browning meat can still be a hassle, but I've gotten into the habit of doing that the night before. The other revelation is that the overall processes for many recipes are pretty consistent from recipe to recipe, and it works. This has actually allowed me to adjust recipes found elsewhere (soups, stews, etc) to work. This book works well beyond its bounds, which has made a great Indian cook book even greater. This is why I've always liked ATK books. They explain a lot, which makes it easy to adjust recipes to your liking.The only thing I would express caution about the book is their reviews and recommendations of crock-pots. This probably doesn't matter if you are reading this review (which presumes you'll read others), but their top recommended slow-cooker gets horrible reviews on Amazon and elsewhere. The book inspired us to get a slow-cooker with a timer, but we ended up buying a Hamilton Beach because despite the caution in this book, the internet suggests that the Hamilton Beach products can work just fine. We've only had the slow-cooker 2 weeks, but I'll review it once I have more to stand-by.I've never had such a great slow-cooker cookbook and will likely get rid of the others I have.

Dawoud Bey’s work is held by major collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the High Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the National Portrait Gallery, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Studio Museum in Harlem, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. In addition to a MacArthur Fellowship, Bey’s honors include the United States Artists Guthman Fellowship (2015); Guggenheim Fellowship in Photography (2002); and National Endowment for the Arts fellowship (1991). He is professor of art and a former Distinguished College Artist at Columbia College Chicago. His monograph Class Pictures was published by Aperture in 2007.
