This book by Sofia Coppola was a delightful surprise. Some reviews were negative - but I was not disappointed. The photos from the film are lovely and the text is quite interesting. I'm very glad that I ordered this selection from Amazon. THANK YOU.
I've wanted this book for a while now, but the negative reviews have kept me from buying it. I finnaly went for it when I saw a used one in like new condition for about ten bucks. That's about what this book is worth. It's just really low quality for the price. The pictures are small and blurry, and most of the book is just exceprts from the script.
I purchased this beautiful book before seeing the movie. I loved this movie -- it is visually breathtaking. The book is a wonderful addition to your collection. I am an avid costume buff, and adore Marie Antoniette, so had to have it for my personal library. The soft colors are soothing, easy on the eye and delicious! See the costumes, the scenery, the palace, the food, the gold leaf... a quote from the movie sums it up nicely, "This is Versailles!" If you purchase this book you will not be disappointed. Visit France without leaving your home! Go ahead -- Mon dieu -- buy it already! Enjoy!
Keeping in line with the previous books pertaining to Sofia Coppola films, I have to say the book for Marie Antoinette is now my favorite. It's perfectly in line with the tone and style of the film, and the pictures are really wonderful. There are probably more that could've gone in to the book (the publicity campaign for this film delivered thousands and thousands), but the knowledge that these photos were the ones expressly chosen by Sofia as accessories to her script (the core of this book) give it a very intimate, coffee table by way of scrapbook feel. The script itself is the highlight, and sheds light on the original intended ending for Coppola's film, quite a departure from the already dark ending of the film in its theatrical release. I think this is a perfectly lovely book, and although I don't quite gather why so many feel so negatively towards this publication (I think it might've been the initial price, or simply that they didn't expect the book to be what it actually is), I would recommend it. Not to anybody, but if you are a fan of either Sofia Coppola or her latest film, Marie Antoinette, this is a really nice treasure that makes my coffee table a lot more interesting now. These books generally don't stay in print very long, and this is a steal of a price; try finding the Lost In Translation book from three years ago! Five stars, no question.
Completely beautiful! I loved this movie, and everytime I watch it I keep hoping there will be a directors cut 2 disc dvd or something, but nothing has shown up, then I found out about this book. Its little clips of the script and then pictures of the Palace of Versailles, or the characters. Sophia Copolla made a visual masterpiece in my opinion, and the book takes you through the movie easily. If you were a fan of this movie, you need this companion book.
Great book
Beautiful book. I gave it four stars because I was expecting behind the scenes content. It is really just still frames and excerpts from the script. It is still a gorgeous book that I love to have in my collection.
I have been giddy with excitement for this film to open. I've always been interested in Marie Antoinette and I actually played her charactar in a play when I was younger, so when I saw this book I became overjoyed and bought it. I guess what I was expecting was a story-form version of the movie (which I've not seen yet- it releases tomorrow) but instead I received what seems to be an over-priced copy of a screen-play with decidedly few lines (I read through it ALL in 20 minutes if that...) that shows no emotion nor pulls you in. It shows some shots from the movie, that are medium quality at best and some - I dare say - low-quality and blurry photos. I am disappointed that I paid so much for something that I guess I thought would be very different.Bottom line: If you are looking for a keepsake because you love this movie or Sofia Coppola in general, than go for it and spend your money. But if you are looking to read the book version of the movie, then DO NOT buy this. This is a screenplay only and nothing more, unfortunately.
