Simone Miller is a self-taught chef who has been working in the food industry for seventeen years. She worked at several restaurants in New York and Connecticut before relocating to San Francisco in 2007. Once in the Bay Area, Simone worked as a personal chef while working to launch a catering company. Well Zenbelly has done it once again. Paleo Soups and Stews is a must have. Simone's recipes are easy to follow and always turn out just as beautiful as her gorgeous pictures. This is a must for anyone serious about cooking and it's healthy too! I made the 5- Spice Beef Stew and Oh My Stars was it a hit! Plus the bread, yeah I said bread is wonderful as well. She has taken all the fuss out cooking. Have some fun, get this book. Winters right around the corner let's all get ready for it❄❄❄

I pre-ordered Simone's latest book on soups after becoming a heavy user of her Zenbelly and her collaborative work on Yiddish cooking with Robins. Part of me was wondering about the soup part since I turn out some pretty mean bone broth soups and stews myself, but the prospect of more gluten free bread options from Simone's creative mind sold me on giving it a try. The bread section did not disappoint. The rye bread is now my go-to, the pull aparts her best take on them yet. However, its the soup and stew section that has me pulling the book off the shelf regularly.Simone starts out the book giving her background in soup making and giving the reader a background in the techniques used in the book. For once I actually read all the introductory pages. I suggest you do too. The directions for each soup are clear and a pleasure to read. The results have incredible depth of flavor and her garnishes and sides make for a complete presentation. This is Simone's best work yet.

Zenbelly does it again.I love Chef Simone Miller's new book. The attention to detail is stunning. From the explanations on how to build flavor step by step to the list of recipes suitable for special diets, the book is jammed full of useful information (as well as stellar recipes). It has inspired me to start cooking more.I appreciate that she has written the recipes to stream-line the process whenever possible (e.g. searing meat only when it is necessary for the end result). And, as a new Instant pot owner, I love that she has included instructions for pressure and slow cooking in most recipes. I have used her 2 step technique for bone broth in my new pot twice now with good results. I've also found super recipes for veggie broth that I can make for myself and share with my vegan neighbors! I can't imagine the time she spent developing the "add ins" and "goes with" recipes. These include baguettes, boules, oyster crackers and noodles. While this section may offend the Paleo police since the recipes use "gray area" ingredients such as ground psyllium husks... they are great to have and use depending on our own health needs. Buy the book. It will become a classic.

I've only had Paleo Soups & Stews for 2 months and have already made more recipes from it than I've ever made from some of my other cookbooks in the years I've owned them. Chef Simone's recipes are easy to understand, easy to follow along, and easy to make look (and taste) just as delicious as her mouth-watering pictures. I especially love the slow cooker and pressure cooker options on some of the recipes. By far the best compliment I can give Chef Simone is that her recipes are *husband approved*! My picky husband devours his soup/stew and routinely goes back for seconds. He even has to talk himself out of going back for thirds. Our favorites are the West African Cashew Stew (this is on regular rotation in our monthly meal prepping because we love it so much), the clam chowder (we've only tried the New England version so far but we're excited to give the Manhattan a try soon), and the Lamb Curry Stew (it's seriously worth paying extra for lamb and trying this stew, it is so yummy). I also learned a new trick from her recipe method for making cauliflower rice. It has saved me time and makes it easy for me to whip up a batch of cauli rice to go along with many of her stews. Since I was on a no-baked-goods-not-even-paleo-ones diet and now my husband is, we haven't made any of the breads yet, but as a trained pastry chef I am most excited to give her baguette, bread bowl, plantain tortillas, and bread stick recipes a try as soon as we are diets complete in our house! Long story short, if you want a cookbook with a ton of soup/stew variety, with fresh and clever ideas, with easy shortcuts, and with lots of paleo love then this is the cookbook for you. I can't wait to get Chef Simone's other books, especially Zenbelly!

I am a huge fan of all Zenbelly recipes (my first love was the pizza crust recipe) so I was super excited to get this book. It came just in time to make those comforting soups and stews of the fall. This book was everything I hoped it would be. Packed with not only great recipes for the spups and stews themselves but with baked goods you can add and awesome broth recipes. This book was also very well thought out in that it present different ways to make the same recipe if you are following different types of diets (ie low carb). Not to mention an awesome dessert section. I have made a few recipes so far and as always I am very happy with the outcome. Thanks to Simone for putting together a great reference.

I have Chef Simone's Zenbelly Cookbook on Kindle and LOVE it! Her recipes are so packed with flavor and I've made several of her recipes for non-paleo athletic men -- all of whom would not shut-up about how delicious the food was, and actually craving the leftovers. She captures the true essence of paleo -- whole, nutrient-dense real foods (primarily vegetables and related!) and moderate proteins and fats. Extremely healthful ingredients and recipes!My love of Zenbelly prompted me to purchase her newest book, Paleo Soups & Stews and take a local cooking class with her, cooking a few recipes from the book! WOW! Has she outdone herself?! It is an utterly incredible collection of information and delicious and innovative recipes. I have had 3 of the soups and stews so far, and they are incredible! This is one of the most drool-worthly books in my library! (BTW, I also found her to be a delightful and approachable person!)

If you are reading this review it probably means you are a poor, unfortunate sole that was smart enough to get into to law school but not smart enough to get out. Now it is mere weeks before your Property final and you are freaking out about the Rule Against Perpetuities. Just buy this. Do it. It's worth wasting another 50 bucks on yet another book. It really is. The examples are actually really helpful, unlike most casebooks.

This text was well-written and very easy to read. It doesn't drown you in technical language, so you can read it very quickly. And, many of the exercise were very helpful to cement your understanding. Definitely consider the exercises if you want to cover your bases, because many of the tricker applications of the concepts are not obvious from just reading the text.Note: I used this as a supplement only - I do not think it would replace studying actual cases, as it is too simplified.

If you are used to reading Glannon's E & E where he gives everything you need to know...and only that in a very organized matter, you will NOT like this book.

Black acre may still haunt me but E&E literally helped me survive Property.

This property E&E was probably the best E&E I've had yet. It explained everything very well and the examples really cut to the question/tested your knowledge to make sure you understood everything. I would definitely recommend this as a study tool for any property class focused on the black letter law!

The most horrendous part of Property wasn't too difficult after a couple dozen RAP problems out of this E&E. A couple fellow students and I spent hours doing RAP problems from this book out on a whiteboard and it paid off come exam time.

I learned of Abigail Thomas after reading an article on nonlinear narrative in The Writer's Chronicle. The article interviewed four writers, two with whom I was familiar: Paul Lisicky and Bernard Cooper. I had an opportunity to study with these men in the MFA Program at Antioch University and appreciated their style. The interview made me think I would like Thomas too, so I ordered two of her books, including Safekeeping.WOW!! I want this woman to be my teacher! In writing AND in life. She has the ability to take the smallest moment and make it reveal so much on multiple levels. The pieces verge on prose poems, employing exquisite detail and achingly painful directness. Though the pictures that emerges is distinctly Abigail's story, the emotions the flow through the entire work will no doubt be familiar to many women. The last piece is absolutely stunning. I laid the book in my lap and just sat there breathing, wanting to hold on to all the feelings it evoked.

This book grabbed my attention on the first page and never let me down. I read it on a 4-hour plane ride and found myself sad when I reached the last page because I didn't want to let this character go; I wanted to keep reading the rest of her story. This isn't a traditional memoir; it's far more clever than anything else I've read recently. The chapters are very short and very intentional. I actually gave my copy to another passenger on the plane to read after I finished it because I just couldn't adequately explain why I was so emotionally invested in a character who never existed to me just a few hours earlier.

What an unusual book and memoir! How can a writer say so much with so few words?Abigail seems to have taken the course in life repeatedly, recycling some of the same situations and mistakes. She doesn't say this directly. In fact, often she doesn't speak of herself in the first person, but as if she is people watching herself. Her life is both underwhelming, and at times, under water.She is sharing her insides, but only a minute or two at a time. You gain in understanding as she does.I STRONGLY recommend this book, not for its content, but for its style. If you wish to write a memoir, here is an outstanding example that is also unique, a journey vs. a show-and-tell. I've never read a memoir written like this before. Amazing what a gifted writer can do!

I had very high expectations for Safekeeping after having devoured Ms. Thomas's excellent memoir, A Three Dog Life. Safekeeping is nothing like A Three Dog Life and so I was left disappointed.A Three Dog Life is a moving memoir which displays Ms. Thomas's keen insight and hyper-self-awareness as well as her beautiful way of being able to translate her thoughts and feelings into words. Safekeeping also showcases, Abigail's unique and talented writing style, however, Safekeeping is a collection of short vignette's and does not tell a complete story or recount contiguous events in her life. The stories were disjointed and jumped around.I should note that I am not a huge fan of short story collections to begin with, so I am perhaps not the best critic of a book which is basically mini short stories. Abigail Thomas's writing is sparse and insightful. Those who love short stories will like this book.I recommend reading a Three Dog Life first so as to gain knowledge and backstory on Abigail's life. I feel that this knowledge enables a greater appreciation of Safekeeping despite the fact that it was written before A Three Dog Life.

Another amazing memoir book probably one of the most poetic and well-written ones in quite some time! Do keep in mind that the cover is a reference to Sylvia plath's Bell jar.

Cant put her books down. I have the last 2 plus this one. Am re-reading all. Identify with so many things, and thoughts . Im about 10 years younger, so still in the same aging process as she was when writing 3 dog an her latest, so after teading them went and bought and read this one, it was especially moving knowing what awaited her afyer this. For me it was the best order to read them. She expresses herself so honestly, and that makes it so true.

I love this book! Abigail Thomas is an amazing writer! I have read it several times and will read it many more. Everyone I have lent it to has also loved it. In the last couple of paragraphs she recounts one of the most moving and beautiful events I have ever read about! (But don't skip to the end - read the entire book, which can easily be read in one sitting, unless you want to read it slowly and savour it so it won't be over too quickly.) She says so much using so few words. I have purchased everything she's written and read it all more than once and am anxiously awaiting her new book. If I could only take one book with me on a desert island, this might be the one!

I couldn’t put it down mostly. I love the episodic storytelling style but I can see how it might be difficult for some who thrive on a constant building plot.I loved how she used her perspective when watching other people’s lives to shape her personality as a narrator and human being.

Started this book a few days ago & really liked the beginning. Thought it was very interesting & I liked the protagonist ( The Lawyer Matt Fielder) very much. I really enjoy books more when there is someone in the novel that I feel is a good, decent person & he was it. The story became more interesting as a team developed and started working together to help an accused who was mentally challenged to avoid the death penalty. The details of the investigation and legal proceedings were easily explained and understood. I do not like improbable theories and this was a down to earth honest writing of the NY State legal system; but the story didn't take place in NYC or Long Island; it took place way out in the AdirondackMountains in North Western NY. A very different setting for a novel that added to its enjoyment. The third night I read the book, I read straight through for about 4 hours until I couldn't see straight & it was about 5 am. It was that good that I couldn't stop; but finally did have to stop. I finished it the next night. It was an excellent read and had a good steady pace. I would have like the ending to be more detailed and expanded; It felt a little rushed and I still have some unanswered questions after it - but all in all, I thoroughly enjoyed it & can definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys legal thrillers. This one is different to be sure.

I really liked the main character. I enjoyed the "friendly narrator" style (think, Morgan Freeman, Shawshank Redemption) which was used to explain legal procedures and strategies, but also offered insight into Matt's thought process.The story line involving FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome) was different, and I liked that about the book as well. I would dispute that the suspect was very handsome, given his apparent affliction, which (even the book mentions) typically causes physical facial birth defects. But, I suspended disbelief on that because I found the story so interesting.Unfortunately, the "wrinkle" in the story was pretty obvious, and the culprit was not a surprise. The slapdash, quick wrap up after the reveal felt like the writer just had to end the book quickly. Too bad, because the rest of the book was a nice slow build.

This was a great read. Klempner’s style of writing was just so different than the usual lawyer-ease that most of us don’t understand. I really enjoyed it more and more as I read on. So refreshing. The ending was a real shocker! Being a witness to the law process of a Capital Crime was so interesting. Who knew what it all involved? How important is a life? As the story develops, it’s so easy to come to the same conclusion of guilt. And how wrong we all can be! It sure brought home the desperate need of “any suspect” (guilty or not) to get the best defense that is possible. Nobody could have foreseen ahead of time what the best defense was really worth and how much it would cost! At such a terrible cost to himself, Fielder gave his all – he could do no less. Twists and turns all kept me reading right to the bitter end. As I got so fully involved in the characters, I could have cried at the end. So so sad – for everybody concerned. The book was well written and very interesting – great story! Always glad to add another author’s name to my “list!”

Really good book, the characters were believable & the fast start got me hooked right away. I liked the main character alot, the lawyer trying to get away from it all, who gets called in to try to save a "slow" young man from the death penalty. The supporting cast was alot of fun, from the drunken PI, the gorgeous gay jury consultant & the townie game warden who found the bodies.I took off one star, since the main suspects family goes from one kid to three so suddenly, without any of the townies bothering to mention this fact to investigators till 1/2 way thru the book - really?Otherwise it was a good murder mystery, I really loved how it ended. I'll look for more from this author.

Joseph Klempner is a fantastic author. This is the second book by him I've read. The first was Felony Murder which was also excellent. His characters become so real I feel as though I've known them for years. And his descriptions, such as those of Flat Lake in winter, are as real as photographs in my mind. I'll read all of his books, and I feel sure that each one will leave me wanting still more.

I chose this book because I like legal thrillers. Was I disappointed? No, I learned a lot about capital punishment. The necessary steps that must be followed to insure the rights of a prisoner accused of murder in the firstDegree. You can better understand why it takes so long for the process to work. The lead character, Matt, demonstrates a strength of character that I would want inAn attorney. As McClure says, things are not always as they seem....Good read. I would recommend it for summer reading...

My second book by this author and better read but both were very very good and entertaining. A great plot and clean but good ending to a book that was very hard to put down once you get into the real "meat" somewhere about one fourth along the way. Great read and well worth your time and money. "Drawback", I figured out the real culprit with about 7 or 8 chapters to go. Don't let that tidbit of information deter you from reading this. It fun as well as informative about several legal matters that I found to be eye-opening. A definite 4 star and could have been 5 had I not figured it so soon.

This book is written as though a third person is confiding the story of a defense attorney, Matt, who is hired to defend Johnathon, a mentally handicapped young man. Jonathon is accused of brutally murdering his grandparents while they slept. The writer tells the story as a third person, who has all of the inside information. There are a few twists but I felt that the ending was somewhat predictable and a bit forced, otherwise I enjoyed the book..
