An excellent read for anyone interested in Jain culture and philosophy. Very straightforward and all encompassing. The terminology used is easy to understand for english speakers.
Although this book gives a very brief overview of some of the fundamental concepts of Jainism with regards to karma, it is such a gross misrepresentation that I struggled to get past even the first chapters. I think it tries so hard to engage Western readers that Jainism gets lost in the process, and it WAY overreaches on a lot of the parallels the authors draw between Jainism, western social agendas, and physical science theory. The worst part is that the authors never call Jainism what it actually is: a religion, no more and no less. They insist on treating it as a science (they even call it "Jain Science") and it's NOT, it's a religion, although the authors would have you think that it is the former. It's ironic that they cite Professor Jaini's book "The Jaina Path of Purification" as one of the founding books for Western readers (one of the few things they actually get right), and then proceed to minimize or distort everything in his book. The result is that it reads like a boring science textbook, except their attempts to theorize just don't hold water at all. These authors definitely have an agenda - if you want to seriously learn about Jainism, look elsewhere.
