This was a Christmas present for my 18 year old daughter. I always get my kids a book to read as one of their Christmas gifts, but this year I decided to get my oldest something different. She can write in this each day and will hopefully have something to look back and reflect on years later.

I purchased this book to begin an account for my daughters of my life growing up. I love the premise of one question a day. Not too much pressure and just enough room to fill in the question's answer.

Purchased as a gift. I wish I had purchased one for myself as well!

I was given a copy of this book to review. That said, I always try to be honest and open in my reviews.This is an amazing book.(Please see the enclosed pictures.)The book is designed for you to fill out one question per day for a whole year.The questions range from relatively factual (where did you grow up?) to highly thoughtful and philosophical (how do you want to be remembered some day?).This book could form the basis for an autobiography, self help in dealing with past traumas, an amazing find for your great, great grandchildren, or any of a thousand other uses.I started on the book a week ago, and I am excited to see what questions and answers this year brings.I highly recommend this journal.

I got this as a birthday gift for a good friend who has baby number 2 on the way. Many years ago I purchased a 'The Story of a Lifetime' hardcover book for my grandmother to fill out. I loved the idea. It's a gorgeous old fashioned looking book that was well worth it, especially now that my grandmother is no longer here. I don't know if you can still get it on Amazon, if you can, I actually recommend it over this book. This book on the other hand, is more modern looking with a soft hard cover. It's not a paper back. It's not a hard cover. It's something in-between. It's a nice enough keepsake to give as a gift for a friend (or yourself), but I think if you want to go "all out" for a very special family member a book like 'The Story of a Lifetime' is more suitable and more like heirloom quality.

This journal is exactly what I have been looking for. It has 365 questions about your life. It is intended for you to answer one per day, then at the end of the year you have a chronicle of your story. This is a great way for parents to pass on information about themselves to their adult children. I wish I had one of these filled out from my Mom to look back on (she is no longer with us).The questions range from "when is your birthday? Describe what you know about the day you were born." to deeper questions like "What more do you want out of life?" or "Do you think there is life after death? Explain." The journal gives one page to answer each question. This seems like an appropriate amount of space to me. It was a little difficult to write on day 1 because it is on the left side of the book and the book is new and stiff. This will get easier though with use.This journal is intended for adults. There are a decent number of questions about high school, college, relationships, and careers. I really love this journal and I would definitely recommend it. I plan on buying more for family members.

This book can definitely help the writer record both the facts of their life and their opinions and things they've learned over the years. Questions range from a basic request for birthdate and information known about that day to a request for the major themes in your life and musings about aging. You don't have to be old to use this book, but most of the questions can be most easily answered by someone who had finished school and had some life experiences afterward. Physically it is an attractive book with colorful endpapers, a thick flexible protective cover, and a ribbon. There are 365 questions, one to a page, with a lined area provided for your answer. I was able to peel off the information label on the back cover, which makes it look more like a regular journal, in my opinion. There was no sticky residue left underneath it, but the area under the label is faintly lighter in color. This journal would make a lovely keepsake.

This book is a super gift to someone else for them to complete or for you to complete and give as a gift to children or grandchildren or other loved one. I also think the questions are excellent discussion starters for couples or friends. This reminds me of The Book of Questions. Each page of this book has a question and then lines for writing out an answer. It is a helpful resource to provide much of your life story. Of course, some questions are more inspiring than others. This could simply be a gift for yourself to help you reflect on your life. It is a nice hardback book.

EASILY could be a 5/5. Definately 4.5/5. I'm just tired of Zombie knowledge. Although, author says replace Zombies with any creature you want: robots, aliens etc. Its more about knowledge to create. Worth the investment!

As a budding horror writer, this book is a font of helpful information! I will be using it quite a lot in the future.

Excellent book! Thorough view on all aspects of the apocalypse. Great for writers who need world building and plotting. I highly recommend.

About the Author

Hieu Minh Nguyen was born in 1991, a child of Vietnamese immigrants, his debut collection of poetry, This Way to the Sugar, was a finalist for both the MN Book Awards and the Lambda Literary Awards. Nguyen has received awards and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, Kundiman, the Vermont Studio Center, the Minnesota State Arts Board, and the Loft Literary Center. His poems have appeared in Poetry, The Offing, BuzzFeed, The Academy of American Poets, and elsewhere. He lives in Minneapolis.

Hieu Minh Nguyen’s books are amazing and he always tends to outdid himself, I won’t spoil it for you, but his book is beautiful, heart wrenching, and it will leave you breathless. If you love poetry, it is for you!

Nguyen's book of poems not here have an eroticism to it.Now, I sat on reviewing this mainly because there's an adjective that belongs in front of that word “eroticism”. And as much as I thought about it I really couldn't sit down and figure the best modifier to put in there. The closest word I would say is like “tragic”, but was also something else I can't really Define it's a certain je ne sais quoi in a real sense. But overall they're pretty good. I would tell my friends to read this book. If you're reading this review you're my friend you like poetry so you're my friend now and you should read this book as well thank you.

One of the best books of poetry I've read in the last few years.

I heard so much about this author and book prior to its release. I was able to snag a copy on Independent Bookstore day even! Incredible and powerful poetry. One of my favorite books I have read this year. Definitely, a must have.

My son has an interest in becoming a shoe-maker and we were looking for a practical book that would help him with the practical techniques of shoe and boot making. This was the book he was looking for.

there is a lot of information in this book. just keep in mind that is is very very dry reading. will not teach you how to make shoes but teach you how to make better shoes.

Having gone through I have not been able to find or buy some of the materials mentioned in the book which I needed to complete a project. I am sorry I will not be able to give correct preview because I have not completed anything. I hope an update of new materials that are alternative to the old materials could be suggested so that one could then manage, but as a novice, you have no clue of what to do or whom to ask for advice. I am in limbo at the moment until I can figure out what I can or how I can complete this journey of mine.

Really outdated book, not very useful unless there is a historical interest. Not useful for shoemaking.

I read the description, not the reviews, this book is a reprint of a book first published in 1885. Unless you are already a cobbler, wishing to reproduce shoes from a bye bye gone era, this is a waste of money for you. If however you want a book on the history of shoe making, with no real instruction in the craft, go for it. I can’t rate this book honestly because I didn’t buy it for those reasons.

Not enough pictures to suit me but good info anyway. Think the description of book should include the fact there are few diagrams.

My son was thrilled with this book. It was a gift and I wasn't sure if he would like it. I was happy that he was so happy.

About the Author

Hardie Gramatky was born in Dallas, TX, in 1907 but moved to California as a small boy after his father died of tuberculosis. He attended Stanford University (earning the tuition by working as a logger and a bank teller) and Chouinard Art Institute before becoming one of Disney’s early animators in 1929. In the 1920s and `30s, he helped start the California Watercolor movement. In 1936, after a 6-year Disney contract expired, he left the company (earning $150 a week, a huge sum in the Depression) to move to New York City with his wife, artist Dorothea Cooke, to become illustrators. It was there, in his studio on Pearl Street, that Gramatky saw a Moran tugboat out his window that obviously didn’t want to work and kept making figure 8s on the East River. So in 1939 after painting many watercolors of the busy harbor, Gramatky wondered what would happen if a “tug didn’t want to tug” and wrote the story. He died of cancer of the ileum in Westport, Connecticut, on April 29, 1979.Hardie Gramatky was born in Dallas, TX, in 1907 but moved to California as a small boy after his father died of tuberculosis. He attended Stanford University (earning the tuition by working as a logger and a bank teller) and Chouinard Art Institute before becoming one of Disney’s early animators in 1929. In the 1920s and `30s, he helped start the California Watercolor movement. In 1936, after a 6-year Disney contract expired, he left the company (earning $150 a week, a huge sum in the Depression) to move to New York City with his wife, artist Dorothea Cooke, to become illustrators. It was there, in his studio on Pearl Street, that Gramatky saw a Moran tugboat out his window that obviously didn’t want to work and kept making figure 8s on the East River. So in 1939 after painting many watercolors of the busy harbor, Gramatky wondered what would happen if a “tug didn’t want to tug” and wrote the story. This is a really cute, classic story. It's a real bummer that the other boats make fun of Little Toot and call him a "sissy". I don't want my 2-year old repeating this. We bought the audio book, so I won't play it for him at all. If it was the book I could just skip over it, but not so on audible.

I bought this for a granddaughter who loves books. I bought this for her when I saw it was just like the original 1939 book with the same text and pictures. I had this book back in the 50's and loved it. We also had a record which sang the song of Little Toot that I have not been able to find. I would love to find that record. The song started like this.............Little Toot was just a tug, Just a happy harbor tug, And something about he tried but he could never behave.

A baby shower invitation asked for books in lieu of cards. Since Little Toot was one of my son's favorite books, I wanted to find a vintage copy, which I did. The book is similar to the Little Engine That Could in that it lets the reader know that even "little" ones can do wonderful things.

If you like the book "little Toot" this one is a great follow up at story time. It seems all the books for sale must be reading books from a school classroom library, ours has random crayon marks and came with a little popcorn in it.Compared to the original "Little Toot" book this story is shorter.The Nubble Lighthouse in York, ME is our favorite place to visit, having a book that includes one of my children's favorite characters and the Nubble Light is awsome!

Kept my 3year old grandson interested, loves trains n boats, this story was injoyable n taught lessons on making observations as you travel and to never go anywhere without telling an adult.

I had not seen this book for at least 3 decades. When I did see it, I knew I had to have a copy for myself. It was the first book I ever read and it brought back precious memories.The story is about a frivolous young tugboat that would rather play than work. This damages his own and his family's reputation. By the time he is ready to turn over a new leaf, none will take him seriously. He does get his big chance, however, and redeems himself while saving the day when nobody else can.This is the book that kindled my love of reading and stoked the fires of my fascination with ships. In that respect, it is still an influence in my life today.For young readers, it is a good story in terms of entertainment and life lesson. The artwork helps as well. Great for kids!
