Whatever the Cost is the story of identical twin brothers, David and Jason Benham, and their continual striving to follow God through all areas of their lives. The book starts with a brief introduction and then journeys chronologically through their lives from birth through 2014 (approx. age 39). The early chapters focus on the development of a relationship with God and godly character and habits. The brothers are careful to be transparent about both their successes and their failures in these areas as they pursued God and His will for their lives. As the book progresses, the Bentham brothers focus on how the principles ingrained into their early life would be tested in baseball, business, and a reality TV deal with HGTV. Again, they give equal play to the things they did right and to the things they did wrong or could have done better on. Amid the plethora of personal stories and brotherly jibes (interjected in parenthesis), the reader is repeatedly introduced to the principles the Benham brothers believe and practice in their daily lives. David and Jason find a way to make these principles real and to bring them to light without beating you over the head with them. However, they are not shy about their Biblical believes, and they back them up with a heavy dose of scripture. Be prepared to have your beliefs challenged whether you are a Christian or secular reader. This book was recommended to me as a "Christian Business Book", and it does touch on some business principles. However, I believe it is better classified as a Christian Life book. The Bentham brothers challenge you to take your belief in Jesus and God's word so deeply inside of your being that it cannot help but overflow into all areas of your life--including business. I recommend this book to readers who are looking to have a fresh perspective on their Christian faith and/or those who enjoy non-fiction autobiographies. It will well-written, humorous, and unflinchingly honest. Kudos to David and Jason for being willing to live for Christ "Whatever the Cost".
I recently heard the Benham brothers speak on a prayer call, and I was so impressed, I ordered and read their book even though I have about 500 books on my Kindle waiting to be read.These twin brothers have been very successful financially and professionally, though they have both gone through tough times along the way. What made them so interesting, however, was their strong stand for their faith. They had a reality show in production until the network told them it was okay to be Christian, but they couldn't talk about things like their opposition to same-sex marriage. The brothers refused to deny their faith and consequently lost the show.The book tells their personal stories and calls on the church to make a stand for Christ.
David and Jason Benham are excellent, upstanding young Christian men who lay out the principles that will assist you to reach for more and get more out of life. I met them recently at a church conference and they are the real deal! My wife and I purchased 6 copies of their book "Whatever the Cost" for us and our 5 children. Well written, informative, thought provoking, convicting and presents you with over 60 principles to transform your life. A MUST for your personal library!!! Keep up the good work for Jesus men!
Manly men give a real-life manual with humor and depth of character in this compelling story. Inspiring hope that we can change, but heartbreaking as they bring to light the condition of our nation, our churches and our personal promotion that neglects the real priority of our lives as followers of Jesus. I'll be reading it again and again to continue to absorb all the great insights.
I had the pleasure of hearing the Benham brothers speak in person at Charleston Southern University and they inspired me so much, I had to get their book to hear more. This book of is full awesome tools, truths, and transparency. I pray these men continue to be models in the community and the men God has called them to be. They have totally inspired me to find and take my place in the community as a representation of God and the power He has in the life of every believer who yields themselves.
I enjoyed reading about the deeply rooted faith that grounded the Benham brothers through a very difficult time when their show was cancelled. Their strong faith in Christ kept them grounded and a faithful witness in the face public rejection and hatred of their Christian opinions. They are a role model on how those with Christian faith can witness honestly, lovingly and with deep conviction in the face of hatred which is surely going to get worse for those who hold their religious beliefs so strongly. Take heed Church, this is coming our way.
