This was a good book. However, it was a book that touched upon several major memory topics. To delve further you were suggested to purchase other books by this author to get indepth knowledge about memory techniques. I would suggest buying the actual memory books by this author and save some money and forego this book.

I have used put Buzan's book on my university courses required reading for 30 years. I use his approach in lectures. I use the approach to organize data for all tasks. I consider his graphic outlining to be essential.

Fodor has always done a good job with their travel guides, and their Essential Australia continues that trend. The book is well organized by geographic regions and is easy to use. Color pictures and maps are abundant, and all of the typical information travelers should require is included. If you are planning a trip to Australia, then this book can help you. Give it a try.

Use caution as this was published two years ago -- a detail I missed when ordering which ended up costing us significant money. First, airport cabs are NOT $45-$55 AUD. Try $70 - $75 once you include the mandatory tolls and service fees (a little more for CC charge too) and navigating around the light rail construction. For just 1-2 travelers, that would've made trains or buses a better and faster option. Helping define the Central Business District hotels (CBD) would also assist, especially when there's major construction surrounding Circular Quay. Third and bigger -- they talk about a daily and weekly transit pass in Sydney that doesn't exist anymore. That may impact where you choose to stay depending on your planned activities. It was replaced with Opal Cards that are easy to understand if you know to read up about them before traveling. Unfortunately, this information is not easily to obtain in person so copying here for anyone traveling since it's not in the book. If you ask vendors about Opal card workings, they tell you to ask transit folks. If you ask transit folks about weekly passes, they tell you there aren't any. If you're doing less traveling, know that as soon as you hit 6 trips in a week, the rest are half price. Might be worthwhile to take that quick bus ride so you're good the rest of the week. Sundays are cheap --max is under $4.00 for the day. Airport rail fares are tricky because there's an access fee and topping off at the airport requires a min $35 add on. There's conflicting talk about being able to go negative balance to leave a station but it's inconsistent and not worth risking. You can't get refunds on unused trip portions without having an Aussie address and topping off is in round amounts so plan wisely. These editions of books should come with updates on critical information. Hope this helps others.

We used this book during a 3-week visit to Australia and found it very useful. The information about restaurants and transportation was especially good and it brought a lot of attractions to our attention that we wouldn't have known about otherwise. The maps weren't great to use as driving maps, but they were good enough to give us perspective when choosing routes. We used them in conjunction with our phone navigation and it worked well.

Perfect for my upcoming trip — and I’ve been there three times before! This has GREAT specific information regarding hotels, dining and tourist stuff. We used it to pick out three hotels in the cities we have not been to. I will take it with us for picking out specific tourist stuff while we are there. Go ahead and get it!

Lots of information about various parts of Australia, including bus and train information which is really good if y are not getting a car.

This was really useful on our trip. A lot of the information can be found online, but where this excels is by breaking out the cities by areas. I often find myself planning trip activities only to realize I'll waste half my day on traveling through town because the things I picked out where on opposite sides of town. This gives you idea of things that are in close vicinity to each other so you can make sure you hit the most things on your trip.

This has been an ideal book for planning our trip. Concisely includes all of the info that we've needed - particularly, the great suggestions about what to do in each location. Good maps. Concise yet thorough.

The info contained is good but the city coverage is only 90%

I travel reasonably frequently, and have bought Fodor's guides before, which were awesome. This one was surprisingly short on details, tips, almost seemed too focused on hotels and such. By the time I'm at the location (Australia), my lodging has all been handled already. I wanted the book for insights into the various cities, cool things to see. Maybe I just need to bite the bullet and go all digital (maps, yelp, etc.), though honestly I wound up talking with more people rather than rely on the book or phones.

An avid reader of works by Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandlers, Ross MacDonald, and James M. Caine, I longed for Hollywood to get the noir detective genre right, again.Chicago Sun-Times religion journalist Cathlee Falsani immerses herself in the 14 films of Joel and Ethan Coen and asks spiritual and religious questions of the films. Does the Coen brothers' dark humor, verbal slapstick comedy, grim judgments and bleak contexts offer an avenue to the deeper issues of death, betrayal, greed, loyalty in an environment in which God appears to be absent? Do the Coen brothers' film characters show the dire consequences of their choices? Falsani examines the films, her own personal experiences, her spirituality, and the intersection of the Coen brothers media and her own journalistic profession of asking questions and getting answers.

What a colossal disappointment! The book is nothing but lengthy plot summaries followed by short "Moral of the Story" paragraphs which, in my view, completely misinterpret the message of the films. The author is clearly confused between her religious beliefs, reality, and the intended meaning of the brothers. A disservice to two of the great filmmakers of our day.

a bit raw for me....not what I was expecting for a Bible Study option.

I was so excited to read this book. I'm actually working on an essay regarding the same topic, religious themes in the work of the Coen Bros. and I wanted to use this book as a baseline to work from.Unfortunately, it is almost completely useless in when it comes to analysis or criticism. The chapters consist of plot summaries of each film (as if you'd be reading this book if you hadn't seen the movies) and then a 2-3 paragraph conclusion that purports to reveal the "moral of the story." The only two movies the author seems to put any real thought into are The Big Lebowski and Fargo. It seems like she may have only seen some of the others once or twice and really has nothing to say about them. To whittle a Coen Bros. movie down to a supposed moral is over-simplistic in and of itself. But to attempt sum up the point of such complex films in less than one page, without referencing specific quotes or scenes or reviews, is just outrageous.Then there are the little annoyances. For example, the author refers to the three washer-women in 'O Brother Where Art Thou' as Homer's muses when they are clearly meant to represent the sirens. Errors like this make it difficult to take the rest of the book seriously.The author seems to have done minimal research and doesn't even offer any unique insight into most of the films. The thesis seems to be "These films contain religious themes" and not much beyond that. If I got a first-year English student's literary critique of a book or film, and they spent 90% of the paper giving me a plot summary, I would hand the paper back and have them do it again. That's essentially what this book does.I am very disappointed.

IMHO the Coen brothers are unique screenwriters with so much to say. Guess I was expecting a little more insight from this book.

It made me think. I thought the book was about the dude. But it surprised me. The book is about the Coen brothers films and much more.In short I like the book

Just purchased my own Kindle copy of The Dude Abides, since my paper copies kept being given away to strangers on flights. I also thought I'd try saving a tree, or the part that makes The Dude Abides anyway.Great book for a lot of reasons, first and foremost because it helps deliver some clarity to the existential chaos that is inevitable in Coen films. Secondly, Cathleen Falsani, doesn't try to recreate the Coen brothers for her book, she respects their art and influence and helps viewers and readers interact with it, to maybe ask better questions.

His in depth explanations of those writings, their purpose, and the meaning that can be found within them is inspiring. Finally this wonderful 4 volume set is available to kindle readers. Now I can take it everywhere! I am also looking forward to see what other readers highlight.

This first volume is part history, part poetry, part religious discourse, and part description of the Bahai faith. The author's knowledge of all of these subjects comes through. It was an easy read with ample footnotes and cited sources. If you are just learning about baha'u'lah and his faith, you can't go wrong by reading this book.

The is the first book in an amazing 4 part series for members of the Baha'i Faith and seekers who have the energy it takes to complete. It is beginning to the end of the prophet Baha'u'llah's life and scriptural works. This is an amazing author who has written many books on the Faith. The story of the messenger is moving and beautiful, and his works so eloquent you feel the words could not have come from anywhere but God.

The first 3 of the 4 volumes of this great series are now available for Kindle from Amazon.I recommend this series and especially the first volume to anyone who wants to understand how Bahai's understand the Word of God to have been revealed again in our time. This series provides the context of what was going on around Baha'u'llah's work and life, why various writings and tablets were revealed and to whom, and provides provisional translations of many passages that have not yet been officially translated.

This could also be called "Volume One" of this four-volume set. Mr. Taherzadeh was one of the foremost scholars of the Baha'i Faith. He described many of the tablets written by/revealed by Baha'u'llah that are not always translated into English at this time. He interlaced them with delightful essays on the early believers and on spiritual principles. An excellent read.

I read this book many years ago. Since that time I have more difficulty reading print, but Kindle fire works fine for me. I am ever grateful to be reading it again. It gives me inspiration as well as thorough history of the Baha'i Faith. Adib Taherzadeh had offered such a gift through his writing. I hope Volume 3 and 4 will soon appear for kindle. I keep looking.

This first volume makes the early years of Baha'u'llah's dispensation come alive. It adds fascinating context to His early writings.

I've gone completely digital and it was a source of disappointment that the four volume set had not been made available as eBooks UNTIL NOW. George Ronald has started with a few ebooks available and I could not be happier - hallelujah! Two out of four volumes so far in this collection so that means they will all be available soon.
