I helped co-teach this for a ladies Bible study. I felt that the book was very repetitive...same character qualities in multiple women. A number of the women mentioned don't have a lot of information given in the Bible about them, so a lot of it seems to just be assumptions about what it might have been like for them. I'd much rather study Biblical facts.
I got this book to read for a book club with my women's group at church. I wanted to like this book, but I really didn't. I was put off a bit by a man writing all about women, but really didn't appreciate the first chapter being all about women being submissive. I'm in agreement with a biblical view of submission, but having that be the focus of the first chapter in a book on women written by a man was uncomfortable. There were several instances of this type of male focused writing, so I eventually gave up reading it.
No doubt this is one of the best book I have ever read. Our church ladies have used this for our Wednesday Night Meeting. Have learned so much new information that we had no idea about. Highly recommend this book for your Ladies Church and even for individuals to read.
This is the second book I have read from this author. This book does not disappoint. John MacArthur chooses twelve women from the Old and New Testament and does a deep study on them. He uses Scripture to back up his thoughts but adds his opinions for the reader to consider. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing these women in some different ways than just the usual teaching about them.
As always I love John MacArthurs work. Perfect for growing in Christ as a woman. Pointing out the handful of women mentioned in thr Word for us; He explains things thoroughly but still is all backed by Scripture. Thank you!
This is an excellent group or personal study of how God used ordinary people to accomplish HIS extraordinary purpose, to complete His plan of Salvation, and to encourage & grow believers. Great personal introspective questions.
I enjoyed this book tremendously. The author's perspective on all the women was on target and interesting. I loved his book, "Twelve Unlikely Heroes" and I was glad to find this book. A good read for all Christian women and those curious about the people of the Bible.
Great book. Very detailed and easy to read. Although some of the women in our Bible study find it a bit deep, I find it fascinating that the author can find so much information about these women. I have always liked John MacArthur and respect his narrative as being backed up with scripture but some feel he is adding too much speculation. The only negative perhaps is you cannot break the chapters into sections if you are going to answer the questions at the same time as they encompass the entire chapter. A great deal of information to cover in our 2 hour weekly study-at least for many of the chapters. If you are reading this alone or if your group does not mind buckling down to study this is a wonderful book. I would highly recommend. Received as promised from seller.
