This book hits right at it; plus alot more. I was so blown away that a book could simply give a better understanding of the issue, but also break down the doubts that not any single one person could be alone. even if it isnt pronography, finding a new way to get a grasp on the healing process and to know everything is going to be ok. The truth is, God still loves us and wont stop. This book is different from the rest. nothing but high recomendations. (of course you cant go wrong with having a Fresh Prince quote either!)

Stephen Kuhn's 10 Lies is a rare book on pornography (and addiction in general) that deals with the underlying heart motivation behind porn, rather than offering rigid instructions for behavioral change. It's a shame that the performance-driven books on the topic (like the dreadful Every Man's Battle series, for example) get so much coverage.10 Lies is really about a lot more than just porn - it's about the fundamental heart issues that have implications for the entirety of your spiritual life, not just porn and addiction. Kuhn's writing is clear and to the point, and offers a lot of content to digest, in a concise (and inexpensive!) package. If you or somebody you know is struggling with porn use or addiction, then this is one book on the subject that gets it right when so many others don't.

A great look at how the lies of pornography can lead us into a path of destruction.

I definitely have a problem with pornography. I've been on a journey and had many slip ups as well as failures. Stephen puts things in perspective by showing you the side you don't usually associate with pornography. He gets you to realize how much God's love is missed in our lives. In a digital age of constant media consumption we can allow things to hold the place of God's love. But the void is never truly filled - Stephen helps you to figure out how to be whole again.

Incredibly helpful and practical. The practice of replacing the lies we tell ourselves and the lies we are bombarded with from the world around us and the enemy with God's promises and truth is fundamental to living the abundant, victorious life in Christ. Kuhn is on that path and I am grateful for honest, courageous brothers like him. May many find this book and be blessed!

Background lesions can confound study interpretations, and I have found it useful in a few projects already. Given the high cost of this reference, though, I did expect more substance. The reference suffers two deficiencies that limit utility; perhaps these can be addressed in future editions. First, the illustrations are too small. Detail and perspective (surrounding tissue) are very important in morphology, and the small illustration size limits both. Second, more written perspective and interpretation based on published studies would be helpful in understanding what is known about the cause and incidence of such lesions, and where they may be exacerbated by xenobiotics. What's included is a good foundation but insufficient in detail. Despite these shortcomings, this is a useful though expensive reference.

This book, and Robert Whitaker's previous book, Anatomy of an Epidemic, are the two most valuable books I've read to date.I rarely bother to write reviews. I'm taking the time to write this one because I've seen firsthand how the drug companies and psychiatric profession have put ego and money first and patient care second.I finally understand why my psychiatric care these last 25 years has been not only ineffective part of the time but has resulted in what unfortunately seems to be permanent brain damage. It is too late for me, but for those who are recently diagnosed or those who have been on psych meds for only a few years there is hope if you take the time to read this book.My wife has also suffered greatly as a result of prescriptions that were inappropriate given the science available at the time. We both face the bleak prospect of living out the final third of our lives trying our best to cope with the damage psych meds have caused.If you, a family member, loved one, or friend are diagnosed with a mental illness, please read this book. Don't make the mistake my wife and I did by assuming psychiatry had our best interests at heart. Drugs are a last resort, not the first.How ironic is was to read that one of my past psychiatrists, Dr. Andrew Nierenberg, is mentioned several times in the book. I had sought out one of the best doctors in the field of bipolar to ensure my medical treatment was optimal. It was an 8 hour round trip drive to his office each month but I felt it was worth it as he was one of the "experts". I was saddened to read about his many close financial ties with the pharmaceutical industry, his defense of those relationships, and his participation in skewing study results.But that's the point of the book. Good doctors can make bad choices without understanding how those choices add up to impact the long-term wellbeing of patients.

This is a technical book but so well written and researched that anyone interested in the field of psychiatry should read it. Some of the facts the authors point out surprised even a skeptic like me. For one thing I didn't realize how brazenly psychiatric researchers manipulated data they presented to the public.The authors contend that changing the psychiatric profession from within will be difficult because psychiatrists and researchers believe they are objective and are doing what is best for patients: their self-serving biases are unconscious. I think this may be true of only some individuals. I worked in the pharmaceutical industry with numerous people who were ethical. But there were also those who believed it was okay to massage data in a way that was favorable to a study drug because it was advantageous to their careers and to the company. Questions of right and wrong were irrelevant. I strongly suspect many psychiatrists also pursue mainly their own interests and are very aware that this is what they are doing, much as they may try to hide it from others.I believe the authors' prescriptions to improve psychiatric research and practices have merit. But, given the fact that Congress and the government have been so corrupted by pharmaceutical dollars, I'm not too optimistic that there will be substantive changes. Although the authors don't go into this, many other medical fields besides psychiatry have been corrupted by drug company money. Just recently, the House of Representatives passed a bipartisan bill (supported by Big Pharma) that would, under certain circumstances, permit individuals to be enrolled in drug trials without their consent and that would loosen the regulatory drug approval process. Combatting an industry that has this much power will not be easy.

I just finished reading this book, which is a real eye opener. It carefully tracks the way in which psychiatrists beginning around 1980 committed to a model which asserts that serious emotional suffering represents physical brain illnesses the primary treatment for which should be drugs, despite a lack of biological or genetic evidence supporting this view. After the publication of this book, any continuation of business as usual by the APA and the associations it colludes with, such as the Mental Illness Policy Org.--one of the critics of this excellent book--is simply more evidence of the accuracy of this publication. I have read more than 40 books by a wide variety of authors on the topics addressed by Whitaker and Cosgrove, and while much of the information in this book can be found elsewhere, one of the great strengths of this book is that it brings this evidence of institutional corruption together within one up-to-date book. The material in this book is well researched and heavily documented. It is damning of the APA, Big Pharma, and, by inference, the various groups who feed off this institutional corruption, as do many consumer groups. I highly recommend it for those who seek the truth about these topics. Contrary ideologues will not like the book. For example, one of the psychiatrists whose participation in this culture of corruption, as described in Psychiatry Under the Influence, wrote a negative review of this book rather than apologize for his corrupting contributions. I, for one, would like to know where he thinks a more fair and balanced treatment of these topics will be found. It sure won't come from those with strong APA guild interests.

I am blown away by the images in this book. Seriously, I am at a loss for words. I will be giving these for gifts this winter. I have not been a prolific gift giver in recent years, but this book is unique enough and beautiful enough to meet my criteria for a nice little gift. Except that it is not so little. It measures about twelve inches square and the pages are made of thick, high quality paper. There are so many winning images in this book that it is hard to choose a favorite, but I have to say that right now my favorite is the one with the hot air balloons. Get this book, you cannot be disappointed.

Wasn't sure if I could do this again; it's been since the early 80's since I tried. Thought my hubby bought the book to drive me crazy. :) But, I looked at the back of the book, to get an idea of the shapes. Started with a one item type of pic; the large pink heart. Stuck my nose to the book and stared while pulling very slowly away...and it worked! I then looked at all the other pictures somewhat easily....except when I tried to look around or down, then I got a bit lost. I love stuff like this! You don't need drugs to have a really good time freaking out over pictures :) LOL

Who doesn’t love a magic eye book. Has a cheat sheet in it to check what you are looked for. Loved these as a kid and still do as an adult. Fun coffee table book.

A terrific text when studying for inpatient OB RNC. The practice questions at the back of the book were particularly useful. This book was a more helpful study guide for me personally than the Intrapartum Modules book, in part because the practice questions were better. This book also covers more material, including newborns. I can see myself referring to this book often in my career.

I have been a nurse in several different areas, I have now found my way to L&D which is what I have always wanted to do. My boss recommended this book, and I am glad she did. It is very comprehensive, up to date on the latest practices, and explains very much the "why?" we do certain things the way we do in L&D units. Pretty much explains you what the standard of care is across the board. Some of my experienced nurses also found it very useful as a refresher and ended up buying it as well. Worth the investment.

For Labor and Delivery nurses preparing for Certification Exams (RNC-OB or RNC-EFM) this is an excellent resource. Goes into the pathophysiology of all things Perinatal nursing. Review questions were helpful, just not very many of them. This really goes into the "meat" of Obstetrics and will provide an excellent foundation for any nurse looking to go into Women's Health.

Used to study for OB-RNC certification. Book is written in a professional journal format. No nice pics to catch your attention of keep you enticed. Must have the mind set to study to get through this book.

this is a great study guide in preperation for certification in this area. The exam at the end of each chapter is wonderful so that you can ensure you have understood the chapters. This is a well written book and study guide.

A must have for Mother/Baby Nurses. I think L&D RN's would benefit a lot to. I got it for the RN MNN RNC exam and so far it has been great for resource and up to date standard of care information.. good investment

I purchased this text to support studies for an OB certification exam. I was pleased to see practice quizzes at the end of each chapter. Unfortunately, I have found several answer errors in the practice quizzes and wish there was a way to follow-up for clarification. While these may simply be typo errors, I wonder who proofed the quizzes.

Great for teaching or learning. up to date info and standards of care. I use if for reference for legal nurse consulting and teaching nursing classes.

Corey Lee shares beautiful essays looking back on his childhood, past memories, and experiences that led to a dish at the restaurant, followed by exquisite photographs and astonishingly difficult recipes. Like most cookbooks of its caliber, this is a coffee table book to read from and enjoy, not for mere-mortal home cooks to cook from. The book shares the story and details the early struggles of opening the restaurant, even for a chef so seemingly invincible as Corey, and also reveals just how intensely each detail of the dining experience was considered. For example, it includes a mini-biography of the potter who Corey partnered with to custom-produce Benu's (stunning) tableware! No stone was left unturned, and that shows in everything from the tableware to the selection of the ingredients and the final dish preparations.I bought a copy as a gift for my family, and skimmed it before being lucky enough to eat at the restaurant with them. I only wish I had studied the book more in depth before going; knowing the insane level of difficulty and time required for each minuscule and delicious bite makes one appreciate it all the more. If you are ever presented with the opportunity to go I suggest you take it immediately, it is truly the meal of a lifetime. I bought a copy of the book for myself straight away after going, and would recommend it to anyone as as a gift for a home cook, food lover, or a treat for yourself!

I had the pleasure of Corey Lee speaking at my culinary school graduation and then followed by a meal at his restaurant Benu. It was a life changing meal and loved all the Chinese flavors he riffs off of. The book features rich high definition photographs of Chef Lee's beautifully plated food and precise recipe instructions. This book is definitely a must have for all culinary book collectors!

Great book, a little lackluster in the amount of recipes that come in it. Also I know for sure many of the recipes aren't how things are done in the restaurant. (I did my externship from culinary school there.) However the history and information provided in the book and sheer beauty of the photography make up for the recipes. Typical Phaidon coffee table cook book.

An exquisite book.....beautifully thought out and photographed plates....no recipes...this is a book to feast the eyes not the family.....to look at and imagine not any recipes...but rather menu plans and tables to view....from this extraordinary and elegant restaurant....for the coffee table...not the kitchen counter.

Some really unique recipes. This is a beautiful book and it probably would be a great coffee table book.

About the Author

LARRY J. SIEGEL was born in the Bronx, New York. While living on Jerome Avenue and attending City College (CCNY) in the 1960s, he was swept up in the social and political currents of the time. He became intrigued with the influence contemporary culture had on individual behavior: did people shape society or did society shape people? He applied his interest in social forces and human behavior to the study of crime and justice. After graduating from CCNY, he attended the newly opened program in criminal justice at the State University of New York at Albany, where he earned both his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. After completing his graduate work, Dr. Siegel began his teaching career at Northeastern University, where he was a faculty member for nine years. After leaving Northeastern, he held teaching positions at the University of Nebraska, Omaha, and Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire, and the School of Criminology and Justice Studies at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, where he taught for 27 years; he is now a professor emeritus, still teaching online courses in criminology and criminal justice. Dr. Siegel has written extensively in the area of crime and justice, including books on juvenile law, delinquency, criminology, criminal justice, and criminal procedure. He is a court-certified expert on police conduct and has testified in numerous legal cases. This was a great way to get through college without having to sell a kidney. Rented this book and returned it at a third of the cost of obtaining it through my school. The book went along with the class nicely, although I had a wonderful teacher, this book attributed to my success. The semester just ended as finals were this week, In this class I have an A,

The book itself has great content and helped tremendously with my Criminology class but if you plan on using this book with the Windows PC version of the Kindle application be prepared for constant crashing issues. This book is the only book/textbook I have had this issue with but every 6 or 7 pages it seems to crash.

Great price for a textbook for a student interested in a career in forensics.

I have the kindle version and I don't really like it. The book is super biased and doesn't give full background information on some of the theories.

Truly an interesting textbook. As a Criminal Justice major this book has provided me with many incites into why people commit crime and who are more predisposed to commit a crime. I would definitely recommend to anyone interested in crime or anyone studying Criminal Justice.

The book itself is standard college textbook but if you need a really heavy paperweight it would work well for that also! Siegel is thorough and uses fairly relevant examples from incidents that have occurred during our lifetime anyway so I guess that's why the editions change so often! The criminology class I am taking relies almost exclusively on this textbook so it is necessary that the book have good content and be easy to read so you'll read it!What has me slightly ticked off is that I paid a small fortune for this NEW book from Amazon expecting to get the student supplemental information mentioned on Page XXIV of the book included and they were not. I guess I would have needed to buy the book through the university bookstore to get those items bundled in. Oh well.As an aside, the book does not really look new either. It looks like it had been left in a damp place and the pages are very slightly wrinkled.
