This devotional has been life changing, convicting, encouraging, and enlightening for me as a leader. It is a must buy to give to other leaders. I bought both the hardback version and the leather bound version (1 for me and 1 as a gift).A leader is not necessarily someone who has a position of high authority or who has hundred or thousands under his influence. Everyone can and should be a leader in some form or fashion, whether it is in the home with the family, in the workplace or at school while displaying God's testimony through your life, or in the church through our ministry, official or not. So, while this book is designed to be written for leaders, it applies to pretty much everyone.I received this item in the middle of February, and the first day I had it, I read almost back to the beginning of the year. The book has superb insight regarding leadership examples in Scripture. Maxwell begins each day with a passage of Scripture from either the OT or NT and points out the leadership example displayed within. He takes from his previous writings on leadership to expound upon the leadership ideal found in the passage. As a seminary student, hoping to lead spiritually, a military officer, a husband and future father, I found this book to be a superb tool in helping me find my potential in leadership through God's gifts and His Word.Binding and pages:I was very pleased with the stout nature of the binding of both the leather bound and hardback versions. Both appear to be very durable and expertly bound. The pages are thick (again durable) and the layout is very beautifully done. Each page has a watermark on it with an inspirational image at the beginning of each month. Both editions have a ribbon bookmark.I highly recommend this book to all people as we all have our times where we lead. This book will help us prepare for that time.

I bought a copy of this book many years ago during a time in my previous marriage when I was receiving conflicting, but well intended advice. At that time, I needed to spend time learning God's ideal of a person of integrity. What I ended up with was a wonderful devotional that changed how I parent, how I work for my employer, how I mentor young adults. No other business leadership manuscript impacted my growth as this small book. I purchase it often as gifts for graduation and other milestone events. I handed my scribbled and notated book over to my daughter when she left for college...it is now one of her favorites.

My husband reads from this before every morning meeting at work and has gifted copies to all of his managers so they can do the same. The daily excerpts are short, inspirational and just enough to set the meeting off on a positive note. Highly recommend!

This was a nicer cover option. Great gifting style since it is a nice presentation for a well-known author. I would highly recommend for any John Maxwell fans.

We are using this as a couples daily devotional. It’s great to get a good strong but simple message into our brains before heading out the door to work in the mornings. We definitely like to dive deeper then this but it is a great kickoff to the day.

I bought this book as I was developing a Management Program. I must say I had no regrets. The use of different passages of the Bible and the explanation given was really great. I think I will purchase a few for my colleagues and supervisor.

While this book is a little cumbersome to read, it is gutt-renching in it's power as it describes the plight of Jews during the 20th century from the old red guard to the refusniks. It largely follows the plight of each family member of the Slepak family. Just the day-to-day drudgery was wrenching to read. The narrative is taken from dictation provided by one of the characters in the family. What struck me so deeply was the process of "excile," and the emotional and physical toll it took on each individual that had to submit to this barbaric torture.I was literally out of breathe when I finished the book and very happy that I stuck with it because I learned so much. It made me feel extremely grateful for living in America and being able freely worship at the synagogue of my choice. Freedom is truly a gift from God.

Chaim Potok has been my favorite author for decades. Though I am not Jewish, I am grateful and appreciative for his fiction as it has supported me through internal transitions similar to his own journey. This book is different from his fiction. It is not fiction at all. It is documented factual Jewish history from an early 20th century Soviet Union environment to its dificult impact for one family into the late 1990's. Not having been raised with a Jewish perspective or significant knowledge of their Common Era history, it has aided my understanding of at least some facits of their perspective and should reduce generalizations on my part that could result in communication stressors unknowingly.

Wonderfully told tale of refuseniks - Jews denied the right to emigrate from the Soviet Union.

Chaim writing on the Jews in Russia is extremely interesting. I felt as if I were waking next to each character as they progressed through their cycles of trials and heartaches. I did not realize the envolvement of the Jews into Russian politics. A great historical time capsule of that period in world history.

Chaim Potok is an incredible Author and I and my children have really taken to his writing style and gift for story telling. This is an excellent read.

Great story! Learned a lot about life for Jews under the communists an Russians, then Soviets, and refusniks trying to leave Russia for Israel.

Chaim Potok is an excellent writer. The treatment of Russian Jews during the time of the Soviet Union was deplorable. More people should be made aware. I highly recommend The Gates of November and any other Chaim Potok books.

My enjoyment of reading is credited to the likes of Lee Child, Patrick Robinson, Jack Coughlin, L T Ryan, Leo J Maloney, Chris Allen, Russell Blake and so many more of the covert ops genre. And then comes Steven Konkoly whose "Alpha" I just finished. What a wild ride. A journey that took me into a maze of entanglements between all of the Organizations and Operations and Operators we've come to know if counterterrorism is the underlying plot. For some of the book, I didn't know if I was heading into a new development or lost in the maze. Then my confusion becomes crystal. I won't be a spoiler and give up any of this plot. I will just say it would be a big mistake if you didn't read "Alpha", because it's the best writing of this genre I have read. Buying the next book of the series right now.

It has been a while since I have read a good mystery / thriller, and I am glad I picked this one up. The author does a great job of getting you into the character's heads and what they are thinking, and the action is pretty much non-stop and believable from a layman's perspective. This was one of those thrillers I couldn't put down, and stayed up really late in an unsuccessful effort to finish it: that made the next day a little better as I was able to sit in the easy chair and finish. I'm looking forward to starting the next book in the series.I originally picked this up during a free Kindle promotion and as I type this review I see the pricing is all of 99 cents which makes this an outstanding value. Jump on this one while you can at that price, as this is just as good - I think better - than most of the "name brand" thriller authors out there today.

It is a readable book if you don't need much depth or nuance, the the characters, which are all obvious, cartoonishly sketched action movie tropes, are dull and unlikeable. Unhateable too they're so two dimensional. The woman, gorgeous, the janitor Hispanic, etc. The publisher has backed it with some promo funding so it'll get a few reads. Read it. Don't read it. Your life will neither be improved for the experience, nor diminished for want of it.

This was not, to me, your typical thriller with a hero, a sidekick, and an assortment of other characters both supportive and destructive. Add in the practice of these highly resourceful spies, agents and all sorts of antagonists, you come up with some who change names and personalities, who they report to and why they go undercover so deep you think they have a chance of concealing their identity from those who would put an end to their activities. Then, we see some of the most bloody maneuvers that take down anyone who stands in their way of achieving what their mission demands. Altogether, this is pretty exciting stuff and you need to be on your toes while reading it so as not to lose your place on just who is doing what and to whom. I really enjoyed reading this novel and will look forward to acquiring the next in the series. I like the style and the genre.

To me, Robert Ludlum has always been the best of the "conspiracy thriller" writers. Well, I just finished Black Flagged: Alpha in one day and I have the same feelings I had after finishing one of Ludlum's best: mind-blown and breathless at the ride I have just taken. Steven Konkoly, thank you for introducing me to Daniel Petrovich.Daniel Petrovich is a former covert operative living the quiet life in Maine with his wife Jessica when he is called back to perform one last job by his former commander. What follows is a twisting, bloody, adrenaline-pumping race as Daniel tries to stay ahead of the FBI, CIA, and multiple law enforcement agencies trying to capture/kill him after his cover is blown. To try to explain the plot further would take too many words. There are inter-agency rivalries and vendettas, long-buried secrets surfacing and rampant paranoia that keep Daniel literally running for his life.And just when you think you've got a grip on the action, Konkoly throws in a few final plot twists I never saw coming (I love it when that happens!). This story is brilliantly constructed, the characters are well-drawn and developed, the pacing is amped to the max. If you like your conspiracies convoluted and crazed, this book is for you.Note: The only complaint I have with this book is the editing. There were just enough minor grammatical errors (past and present tenses in the same sentence, etc.) to pull my attention away from the story momentarily. But for that, this was a near-perfect reading experience for me. Well done!

This entire series and tie-ins with other novels by this author is an action packed series that you just can't put down. Despite knowing that I can close the book and finish the story tomorrow I found myself extremely reluctant to stop reading. Plenty of action, exotic places and situations, a diabolical renegade scientist who will eventually causes a major catastrophe despite everything this experienced and superbly trained team can do to stop him and his terrorist colleagues. I really enjoyed the entire series and I keep bumping into vague references to many of the characters and situations in other books making the entire series feel like reality instead of a series of fictional novels. Weapons and tactics are up to date and sensibly employed as they would be in real life. You won't be satisfied until you have read the entire series. . . and then you will want more.

I wasn't sure how I'd feel about this book. Spy thrillers aren't usually my preferred genre. I called that one wrong. This was a very tightly written story. Every event led to another. No wasted words or action. I never felt the recessive a cheap shot scene added simply to make the story work.it all flowed. Good work!Yes there is a bit of guts and gore but you can't go around killing people (very efficiently, I must say) without that but it was understated compared to some others in this genre. Just enough to get the job done.I did see one of the big connections between people coming. But that just made the story better. I think I'll have to see what happens next in the remaining books in this series.

It's my experience that people and companies come in two types; those who are just getting by with minimal effort, and those that believe in professionals. Despite the nature of their work, the former Disneyland custodial cast members were the latter; professionals who took true pride in their work. Face it, messes happen everywhere, including Disneyland. From horse droppings to parade debris to poop art in the bathrooms, somebody has the job of cleaning it up. More often that not, nobody notices when the custodial staff does their job right. The park is clean, and when something happens, they respond to clean it up as quickly as possible.The book is insightful into the world experienced daily by the "sweepers". Everything from staffing to job assignments to stories of dealing with the unexpected (or, as in the case of the elephants on parade, what was overlooked). There are stories of celebrities, special events, and, of course, the worst of the worst messes that required clean up.

Everyone who visits Disneyland marvels at the cleanliness of such a busy park. Walt Disney set great store in having a clean environment for his guests. This book is a peak behind the curtain at how this massive feat is accomplished. It offers an engaging narrative on the myriad of tasks involved, the methodology in performing them, and how much fun it can be cleaning up after huge crowds. These two have stories both fun and interesting to the Disney fan. The chapters are clearly labeled so that those with weaker constitutions can avoid some of the grittier clean-ups, and if you are not interested in exactly how how each type of the hundreds of trash cans in the park are emptied, you can skip the intricate details. This being a first effort and self published, there are some grammatical errors and typos. These are of no detriment to the book if you are interested in Disneyland, celebrity interaction, and the obvious impact that working for the Disney organization can have. They have also included an excellent glossary of Disney-speak for those of us who have never worked for the Mouse. In summary, grab a pan and broom and give these two a chance, they wrote this book out of passion and it shows throughout.

I too worked within Disneyland Custodial back in the late 1970's (as a Seasonal fast-food busser) and this book brought back many memories. Even though I worked there years before these authors did, many of the people and situations they wrote about I knew well. This is a very in-depth work told from the "source" with humor and insight. While this book will hold a lot for past and current Disney cast members, it will be a great read for any Disney fan or those who have marveled at how Disneyland is kept so clean. It also really reflects the dedication by the custodial cast members (and that department) that despite seemingly working at the "low end" of the Disneyland employment totem pole, they are really the backbone of the park.As I said, I worked in that department as well as in merchandising (the shops) and I have to say it was great fun and received great compliments from guests. Next time you are at a Disney theme park (or any place that is kept so clean), take a moment to thank those who keep it that way!Thanks for the book Lynn and Ken, and thanks for keeping Mickey's park so nice!

Cleaning the Kingdom is an excellent book for anyone interested in learning more about what happens behind the scenes, and is also interested in Disney history. The authors do a very good job of explaining the job of the custodial staff as it has evolved over the years, and also do a good job of mixing in some unique Disneyland history, stories about interesting guests, events, and other bits of trivia. I really enjoyed their writing and story telling style.

This book is a great insight into the magic that occurs behind the scenes in a very underrepresented and often overlooked department of the parks. I have encountered a few typos, but none of them were drastic enough to impede what the authors were trying to convey. Another edit or revision would have been nice, but overall the material is enjoyable, entertaining, and informative. Both authors clearly share a passion for Disney, and this book delivers first hand experiences on what it was like to work in custodial at a Disney park. As a listener of the authors' podcast, "The Sweep Spot," and a visitor of all world-wide Disney parks so far, I learned many new things by reading this book. Definitely a recommended read for all Disney park fans!!

This book provides a very detailed view of what it is like to be a custodial cast member at Disneyland. I found the detailed descriptions fascinating, really gave insight into a job I will likely never have the chance to experience. As someone who loves Disneyland but doesn't get to go often I really enjoyed that. I read this as part of my work up before an upcoming vacation to the park. I also loved the stories and insider information you get from hearing these former cast members speak of their experiences in the park. I will never view a certain restroom in the park the same way. I also gained a greater appreciation to all the work that goes into keeping my vacations magical. If you like Disneyland and wonder what it would be like to work there, this is a must read.

I enjoy a well written Disney book and memoirs - this is both. A fun read from an unusual point of view - the often overlooked jani.

Very interesting read on the behind the scenes activity to keep DLand clean. Having worked there in the early years I know it is correct and am enjoying the read and looking forward to more secrets divulged. The writers do a great job putting things in perspective for the reader whether they no nothing about how things work or are familiar with what goes on behind the building facod... Highly recommended if you are a fan of the Magic Kingdon.

These are all great books with so much information. My 7 year old son has been reading them for the past two years and really enjoys them. He remembers so much about history from these books. It gives you odd facts that you may not get from a history book. Beware that some of the books can be a little violet, details about war and killing and such.

I love these books. They're very informative, but the illustrations and the way it is written make it a lot more interesting than dusty old textbooks.

My son enjoys all the books in this series very much!

There are a lot of words in this book. I teach 2nd grade and will only use bits and pieces.
