We used this guide on our trip last summer. We had an excellent time off the beaten track, and this book got us where we wanted to go, with the relavant phone numbers and lots of tips. The 100 or so pages on Fiji's history and culture were also of great interest while we rode on boats to where we were going.

this book has the places to go and the places NOT to go in fiji. Very few NOT to go places but they are in here. We have found dozens of awesome travel spots to go to and visit while on our trips to fiji from this book.. a must for fijian travelers.

If there's one travel book to take to Fiji this is it! David Stanley with his expert eye for culture and ecology makes you want to wander with him round the many Fijian islands. On the plane you can read about the history, economy and environment so you will be well prepared on arrival. The book is well written and indexed.The independent traveler will find the essentials for booking accommodations and planning routes. Buses, backpacker camps, boats and pizza joints are well covered. Fiji, like Greece, is a good country for bumming around.If you are a discerning customer of travel planners then you will find many sights and recreational opportunities to enrich your vacation. Luxury resorts as well as bed and breakfasts are described.Teachers of geography, diplomats, business professionals and others who want to quickly get the basics of Fijian culture and trade can use the book as a study guide. David Stanley has intimate, firsthand knowledge of the South Pacific and his insights will prepare you for encounters with Fijians. He includes a few phrass and explains social customs like kava drinking.Throughout the book there are maps and black and white photographs. I wish this book had more color photographs - coral just does not look good in black and white. The first photo shows a tender - typical of the boats that ferry people to larger vessels when visiting small islands. David Stanley does have some color photos on his personal website at [...]It would be great to have an interactive version of this book on a website or CD for a pre-travel read or instant access in a luxury resort. However, in many places in Fiji you'd need solar power to keep a laptop working!This book makes me want to jump on a plane and go!

Would you rather trust a guidebook written by a twenty-something whose three month assignment was to travel around a certain area and write or would you rather trust a guy who spent twenty-something years living and traveling around these areas? That's the bio of David Stanley, the author of this book and this guy knows the in's and out's of Fiji. That's obvious when you pick up this book.Fiji Handbook starts out with the most comprehensive background of Fiji I've found in competitive books, everything ranging from its history (including cannabalism!) right down to the shark population around the island. I always like to prime up on the place I'm traveling and this section is great for it.The next section, a Fiji "overview" is very informative. It covers the basics such as getting to/from the island, communicating off the island, and accomodations around Fiji (like camping vs. hotels). This is pretty standard in any guidebook.The meat of the book comes afterwards, which is broken down by island chains. It covers everything you would expect, including accomodations, hotels, beaches and attractions. Maps are outstanding -- not only do they have island maps, but major city maps too with post offices, restaurants and sights discussed in the text are labelled on the map.This was the first book by Moon Handbooks I have read and I will surely consider more. My recommendation is to give this title serious consideration

As such, it will not disappoint the reader. It comes as a brilliant tool for visiting the marvelous islands of Fiji, filled with plenty of background information on the local history, culture and current events, as well as invaluable advice for the traveler, with plenty of information and tips, on anything ranging from accommodation to eating, from night-life entertainment to snorkeling. All in all, there is nothing more to be added: once more, don't leave for Fiji without taking this extraordinary publication with you.

We purchased this book a few weeks back thanks to Voddie Baucham's recommendation in his book Family-Driven Faith (another wonderful book, I will add).If you aren't familiar with this book, it's based off the Westminster Shorter Catechism, and it's a family catechism that takes about 5-10 minutes (depending on if you discuss more) each day. Each week (yes, week) you go over ONE question (there are 104 questions... it's a 104 week devotional). Then from Monday to Saturday you have short devotions that deal directly with each question as well as other Scripture readings that support the Q&A. What I really appreciate about this catechism is it's meant for parents teaching children, so the language is really easy to understand even for younger children (my daughter is 4). It also helps comprehension of each Q&A because it's something that is discussed for an entire week. Sure, younger kids won't grasp the important concepts, I'm sure, but they surely do learn to memorize. Some people frown upon this, but I do not. Kids learn through repetition, and though we did have a concern with this at first, we are finding that our daughter is very much learning the concepts and applying them. No, she is young, so it isn't like she's the next great theologian, but she is making the connections. And really, if we want to REALLY make the argument about being afraid that the kids will just repeat and learn nothing, can we not apply this same concept to adults? Do adults not do the same in many situations? I don't think I really have to answer this question. (See: Catholic church masses.)My ONLY slight critique (nothing worth removing a star), is I really wish the Scripture proofs were included with the overall Q&A. I ended up buying a cheap pamphlet for the Scripture proofs that was $1.50 here on Amazon with Prime Shipping. Let me explain: in most cases, the Scripture proofs ARE included, but they are included in the devotional sections, but they aren't actually linked to the questions; there is no place that points to that specific verse being the Scripture proof of the Q&A. This can easily be resolved through a quick Google search and a pencil, but I would've assumed that would be pretty standard. Of course, this book seems to be more of a devotional type of catechism, but would still love to see the proofs (labeled clearly AS proofs as well) included. Doesn't deter from the content, though.If you are serious about training your child in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, I highly, highly recommend this. It's one of our favorite resources we have found.

This book provides the guidance needed for consistent family devotions. The Shorter Catechism questions are broken down into daily, bite-size segments that are small enough to keep the attention of younger children, but meaty enough to engage older children and adults. The only thing that I would change is the updating of the language; we prefer the original.If you're looking for a devotional resource to use with your whole family, Starr Meade has written an excellent book that will keep your family in the word of God.

Content provides a structured approached, based on the Westminster Shorter Catechism, to teach my teen boys about the nature and ways of God. We do the devotions 4 to 5 days per week. Sometimes I combine the narratives with content from elsewhere. Sometimes we'll go through 6 days of devotional material in 3 days. Bottom line is that this book is an excellent resource for family devotions, especially families new to the Reformed tradition.

Wonderful family devotional! It works through the Westminster Shorter Catechism with one question a week and SHORT but theologically packed readings for each day of the week. Perfect for Elementary-Jr. High aged children.

Training Hearts Teaching Minds has been a tremendously helpful resource to introduce the Westminster Shorter Catechism to my four-year-old. The questions and answers have been written in modern English (I felt like the original was a bit tough for my daughter's age), and there is a short daily devotional for each Q/A set. By short, I'm talking about 5 minutes a day or so. By the end of the week, my daughter usually has both question and answer memorized. This is so much easier, more edifying, more productive, and more fun than spending 5 minutes a day just drilling on the questions and answers. I don't have any experience using this devotional with older kids, but my sense is that parents of tweens and teens could use the short devotions as a jumping off point for discussion. The author includes related scripture references as well, which also aid in broadening and deepening the discussion. Highly recommended by this mom!

Just so you know - this book is based on the Westminster Shorter Catechism. Some of the questions are Reformed in nature, but on the whole, the questions just deal with good theology any Christian can agree with and enjoy.This book is so good! We have been doing it for about two weeks and have really enjoyed it. There is nothing like hearing my five year old and my almost 3 year old reciting the questions and knowing what man's primary purpose is (to glorify God and enjoy Him forever). If you are looking for a good family devotional, look no further. The questions and answers are short. Sometimes, we have to explain the words the author uses or use substitutions for our girls, but it isn't a big deal at all. We really like this one.

This has been an incredible resource for a family new to the Reformed faith. The kids (ages 6-13) are eager to interact with the teachings. I am very pleased with the foundation this book presents--much more substantial (yet approachable) than expected. Would love for this to be available in a Kindle edition.
